Link-building case study

How I Built Relevant Authority for Riviera Maya Haciendas with Clicroot

A focused link-building campaign across travel, leadership, hospitality, and business publications

Primary campaign pageCompany retreats at Riviera Maya Haciendas

Riviera Maya Haciendas is not a typical hotel brand. Its offer centers on four staffed beachfront haciendas in Puerto Aventuras that can be rented separately or together for families, weddings, and company retreats.

The commercial opportunity was clear. The brand needed stronger authority around high-value group stays, especially the company-retreat experience, without relying on random travel links that had little connection to the offer.

Working with Clicroot, I helped build a focused campaign that placed Riviera Maya Haciendas inside conversations its future customers were already reading.

01 · The problem

The Challenge

Luxury travel is a crowded search market. A backlink could look good in a report and still do little for the pages that actually sell the experience.

The campaign needed links that could connect Riviera Maya Haciendas to the problems and interests surrounding a high-value group stay: leadership, employee engagement, wellbeing, company culture, premium travel, and hospitality discovery.

It also needed balance. Commercial anchors could support the company-retreats page, while branded links could strengthen the wider site without making the profile depend on one keyword or destination.

02 · The approach

The Strategy

I split the campaign into two complementary tracks.

01

Commercial Relevance

Six placements supported the company-retreats page. I selected articles about leadership retreats, glamping, employee engagement, executive retreats, wellbeing escapes, and company culture. Each topic created a credible editorial bridge to a premium company retreat in Mexico.

The anchors included “luxury corporate retreat in the Riviera Maya,” “corporate retreats in Mexico,” and “corporate retreat in the Riviera Maya.” This kept the language varied while reinforcing the page's core commercial theme.

02

Branded Authority

Three placements used the Riviera Maya Haciendas brand name and pointed to the homepage. They appeared in articles about travel SEO, AI in personalized real estate experiences, and hotel SEO.

These links widened the campaign beyond one landing page. They connected the brand to how luxury properties are discovered, evaluated, and marketed online.

03 · Quality control

How I Evaluated Each Opportunity

I used four questions before treating a placement as a fit:

  1. 01Does the publisher reach an audience adjacent to travel, work, leadership, hospitality, or premium property experiences?
  2. 02Does the article give the link a natural reason to exist?
  3. 03Does the anchor describe the destination page without sounding forced?
  4. 04Does the target page match what a reader would reasonably expect after clicking?

Relevance came first. DR and traffic were validation filters, not substitutes for context. Across the six publishers recorded in the campaign sheet, DR ranged from 60 to 80, with an average of 72. Their recorded Ahrefs traffic added up to approximately 157,300.

I also developed the surrounding context for each placement. The additions connected the retreat, destination, team experience, or hospitality example to the article's existing argument instead of dropping a disconnected anchor into the copy.

04 · Outcome

The Results

The result was not simply nine backlinks. It was a coherent authority layer around the commercial story Riviera Maya Haciendas wanted to own.

Six links reinforced the company-retreat offer through closely related business and workplace topics. Three more supported the brand through travel, hospitality, technology, and property content.

The available data covers placement delivery and publisher quality, not downstream rankings, enquiries, or bookings. I am treating this as an authority-building result and not attaching a revenue claim that the campaign data cannot verify.

05 · Takeaway

Why the Campaign Worked

Every placement had a reason to exist. The campaign did not force a luxury hospitality brand into nine identical travel articles. It used adjacent themes to make the brand relevant in different but connected conversations.

The deep links supported a money-adjacent page with clear commercial intent. The branded links kept the campaign from leaning entirely on keyword-rich anchors and gave the homepage wider authority.

For Riviera Maya Haciendas, the strongest link-building story was not scale. It was alignment between the publisher, the article, the anchor, and the page receiving the link.

Data Note

Publisher metrics and placement status are taken from the Clicroot campaign tracker. DR and Ahrefs traffic figures reflect the values recorded there and may change over time.
